Savoury Autumn!
As summer bids us good-bye for another year, autumn gives us plenty of occasions to enjoy its fruit and prolong its pleasures. Here are three ideas to note down in your fall agenda.
Rummaging through public markets
While doing groceries often ends up feeling like a chore, a visit to a public market can prove to be a true delight! You can touch, smell and sample the early produce, talk price with and get recipe ideas from the farmers, and buy ripe fruit and vegetables picked that very morning in the region’s fields. Plenty to do the following weekend as you can the goodies, fill your freezer for the winter or concoct meals for the rest of the week. For this reason, let me share with you some of my healthy tips and secrets! (hyperlien vers la section s6.1.4)
Cooking early produce
You can, of course, find apples, tomatoes and corn, but also cranberries, pumpkins and even squashes (there are over 300,000 varieties!) that are simply delicious when eaten raw, or cubed in stews, quiches, rice, ratatouilles and soups, or still puréed and served as sides or in creamy soups, pies, muffins and cookies. You can even make fries from a Hubbard squash!
Treat yourself to a savoury excursion
Who doesn’t have happy memories of Sundays on the farm! During this bountiful season, let’s escape on a countryside tour punctuated only by epicurean stops. Visit wineries, cheese shops, orchards, market and breeding farms, traditional mills, greenhouses and fish farms… plenty of ways to discover the fruit of our soil and all the aspects of their production, as we encourage our Quebecois craftsmen.
